Sulz/Vorarlberg water supply

Water supply for the district and the surrounding communities in Sulz/Vorarlberg

The first water supply system was installed over the years 1903 – 1904. The length of pipe network at that time was around 6 km. The first ring-main with hydrants was constructed in the 1930’s. This was followed in the 1950’s by the tapping of a 2nd spring and the laying of various pipe materials of different dimensions in a goods transport route.

As time passed, traffic levels on the route increased, as did the damage caused. The second reason necessitating renovation was the flow capacity of the old pipe. Over a distance of 8 km, the complete local network was replaced with ductile spheroidal cast iron pipes. The dimensions were increased in places up to DN 200, in order to cater for anticipated future requirements.

The last measure to achieve a long-term water supply for the district and the surrounding communities, and to meet the increased demand in the tourism regions was started in 2003 with the tapping of a 2nd spring in the “Frögischtal”. The district is now supplied with water via two water towers. The pressure stages are regulated by pressure-interruptor shafts
