With heat-insulated cast iron pipes over the Neckar
|
Because of the imminent danger of collapse, the Otto-Konz Bridge in Heilbronn had to be completely reconstructed. In order to ensure that the town was kept supplied with fresh water and gas, the corresponding pipes would have to be installed into the bridge during the three-phase construction period. The client, “Heilbronner Versorgungs GmbH”, decided to use the Buderus DN 500 WKG pipe system as the material for the fresh water pipe. The pipes and fittings of ductile cast iron are coated with a heat insulation of CFC-free polyurethane (PUR) hard foam, which is protected against the effects of weather by a wound jacket pipe of galvanized steel plate. For the Otto-Konz Bridge, pipes with the longitudinal positive-locking BLS® socket connection were installed, since in this system, expansion and contraction caused by fluctuating temperatures can be absorbed by the connection. The decision in favour of BLS® was also due not least to the large safety reserves and ease of installation, thereby providing the optimum economic and technical solution. The six lanes of the bridge have now been open to traffic since May.
