Hafjell near Lillehammer is one of the most popular ski resorts in Norway. The region benefited from the millions invested for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. Today, the Hafjell ski resort, with its 33 ski runs and 28 downhill slopes, is the top ski resort in Norway not only because of its reliable snow, but also because of its picturesque landscape.
Investment is still going on in order to improve the attraction of the location even further. Since 2005, a complex consisting of high-quality holiday homes has been going up in the northern part of the area. For the fresh water supply of this new resort, Buderus cast iron pipe technology last summer delivered a total of 3,100 m of BLS® pipes with zinc protection and outer coating in the nominal widths 200 and 150 under the project name “Alpin Strengen Hafjell”. The pipes are lined on the inside with cement mortar. The order from the long-standing customer Brødrene Dahl in Oslo also included 70 BLS® PN 40 fittings. The laying reliability and the robustness of the restrained positive-locking BLS® connection were proven once again in the mountainous terrain of the Hafjell ski resort.
The fresh water supply pipe has to overcome a height difference of 800 m, and is interrupted by three pumping stations. The handling and ease of installation of the BLS® socket connection once again demonstrated its convincing benefits. All the pressure tests were carried out and passed without problems. Due to the deviation capability of 3.5° - 4° of every individual connection, the use of fittings could be reduced to the minimum.
