“Rocket plough” at record speed – 420 m of cast iron pipe laid in around three hours!
Trenchless installation of 852 m of ductile DN 150 cast pipes for fresh water supply in Tauberbischofsheim using the “rocket plough” process
Geological investigations along the course of the planned connecting pipeline between the new water towers at Impfingen and Hamberg had confirmed that the modern laying technique of the “rocket plough” could be used at least for one 852 m long section of the pipeline. In this new technique, the earth is opened up by a plough drawn by the traction machine. The completely new feature is that the cavity is then widened by the following metal body, the “rocket”, and pre-assembled pipelines of up to 300 m in length are then drawn in from the starting pit by a monitored traction device.
Most impressive of all is the speed with which the pipes are drawn in, and the only 5-10 cm wide crack in the ground left behind by the plough. 420 m of cast iron pipe was installed underground in this way in only three hours.
