Water supply for Bohemia

A project costing millions improves water supplies in Bohemia

The Czech Republic is gradually modernising its fresh water system. The water quality and the connection level are to be increased everywhere. The “Südböhmische Wasserverband” is investing around € 5 million in the replacement of the pipes in the Blatensko region to the south of Pilsen.

For the supply of around 50,000 people in this region around the district centre of Blatna, the Czech Hochtief/VSB is currently constructing a 27 km long pressurised pipeline right across the “Böhmerwald” forest. The pipes being used are ductile cast iron pipes in the nominal widths DN 300 for about 7.5 km and DN 400 for about 20.7 km.

Since the client will also have to cross some difficult terrain with a rocky undersurface, Buderus supplied pipes with the proven 5 mm thick cement mortar coating (ZMU) for part of the pipeline.

At other critical points, e.g. the crossing of a gas pipeline or the course below exposed overhead high-tension power lines, pipes with the special PUR-TOP polyurethane protective coating are being used.
