The "Alte Messe", Leipzig

Construction of two parallel DN 800 fresh water supply pipes of ductile cast iron in the planning area of the “Alte Messe” in Leipzig

The “Neue Messe” Leipzig has been completed, and has already passed its initial tests. The 235-acre site of the “Alte Messe” Leipzig is to be converted into a new city district. This required comprehensive conversion and new construction to the pipework system.

The first section of 250 m with two parallel DN 800 fresh water pipes had to be planned, put out to tender and completed within only 4 months. Although the course of the pipes necessitated a special solution, and although the pipes would have to be installed at temperatures down to -15 °C, the pipes were completed on schedule, thanks to the robustness of the ductile cast iron pipes.

The second section is characterised by two bridges. In one of these bridges, heat-insulated compensating cast iron pipes were used for the pipes. The pipes were installed using a special technique, so that the pipes and bridge can move independently of each other.
